On September 20, 2012 there was a funeral service honoring the 4 fallen members of the accident in Djibouti, Africa. The service took place on the grounds of Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia. The grave will be marked with the 4 names for whom it holds: Captain Nicholas Schade Whitlock from the 34th Special Operations Squadron, Capt Ryan P. Hall from the 319th Special Operations Squadron, 1st Lt. Justin J. Wilkens from the 34th Special Operations Squadron and Senior Airman Julian S. Scholten from the 25th Intelligence Squadron

Hunter 87 Bluegrass Bash (11/10/2012)

The first annual Hunter 87 Bluegrass Bash took place on November 10, 2012. The event has been established to help raise money for the Captain Nicholas Schade Whitlock Foundation. These funds will help to provide the Nicholas Whitlock Leadership Scholarship to a Newnan High School senior, and a bird hunt for disabled veterans. The Hunter 87 Bluegrass Bash took place in Newnan, Georgia at the Newnan VFW. This is a family friendly event that will include a barbecue, drinks, football, activities for the children, a silent auction and live bluegrass music performed by the Packway Handle Band.

In Oct. 2012 the Newnan-Coweta County Airport announced the airport would be officially renamed Newnan-Coweta County Airport, Whitlock Field to honor of Capt. Nicholas Whitlock’s sacrifice, the service and sacrifice of the many young men and women who learned to fly at the airport, and the many contributions of the Whitlock family to Coweta County. A Newnan native, Nick enjoyed lessons and flying out of the airport throughout high school and following college. On Saturday, April 20, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. the airport was dedicated as Whitlock Field.

On June 20, 2013 the Freedom Through Vigilance Association (FTVA) conducted a memorial service for the members of Ratchet 33. The FTVA is an alumni association of the AF Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) Agency, San Antonio, Tx. From their roots during WWII as the Air Force Security Service, their mission is to preserve the heritage of ISR professionals and contributions made to our nation. The memorial service took take place in Colorado Springs at the Air Force Academy. It was a part of the Big Safari Reunion for the FTVA.

On July 26, 2013 the Whitlock Foundation held a Cocktail Reception at the W Hotel in Buckhead. All proceeds went to the Nicholas S. Whitlock Memorial Scholarship. The event included light hors d\' oeuvres, a full open bar, silent auction and live music by The Cumberland Collective.

On Friday, August 30th, the Whitlock Foundation hosted the First Annual Patriots’ Ball in Macon, GA. It was a night of food, drinks, and live music by the Ultimate Sound Band. There was also a silent auction with items donated by Charlie Daniels, Arthur Blank, and a number of generous businesses and individuals. On Saturday, August 31st, the Whitlock Foundation hosted a tailgate with Satterfield’s BBQ, drinks, and live music by Shane Bridges, Colby Dee, and Stevens Layne. This event took place prior to the football game between Mercer and Reinhardt University. All proceeds from the weekend’s events went towards the Nicholas S. Whitlock Memorial Scholarship.

The 2012 Hunter 87 Bluegrass Bash was such a tremendous success that we have grown the event into the Live Oak Music Fest! The First Annual Live Oak Music Fest was a success, and all proceeds continue to go toward the Nicholas Whitlock Leadership Scholarship, a scholarship awarded to a deserving Newnan High School senior, as well as other local projects. The Live Oak Music Fest included a full day of live music performed by: Table 18, Zedella, Kris Youmans, Sawdust, Leonard Washington, Winfield Smith of S&W, and Kevn Kinney(of Drivin n’ Cryin).
