Congratulations to our 2018 Nicholas Whitlock Leadership Scholarship Recipient: Bethany Schenck
Bethany is an incredible young woman who we are proud to honor with this scholarship. As a student she achieved many impressive academic successes. She was a member of National Beta Club for a total of 8 years (fourth grade through her senior year), a School Ambassador for 3 years, and was a member of National Honor Society for 2 years (only Juniors and Seniors are accepted). She participated in several academic clubs in school including Science Olympiad and History Club.
Not only is Bethany an incredibly scholar, but she also excelled within her sport of swim. She was on the Newnan High School swim team all four years of high school. Her senior year, she was not only named Captain but also became the first female from Newnan High School to make it to State Championship for an individual swim event. In addition to the high school swim team, she also swam on a club team for Georgia Tech for 3 years.
Bethany was an impressive student within her school, but as importantly, she was also an impressive member of her community. She was assisted with Vacation Bible School for 6 years, and in 2017she led a group of 6 people on a mission trip to Haiti. She has participated in Relay for Life, Veteran Fundraisers, and other community service activities to enrich the lives of those around her.
Congratulations to our very worthy recipient, Bethany Schenck, and we wish you all the best in your continued endeavors at Mercer University!
